About Us

1 Student at a Time (1ST) is a student-led organization whose mission is to assist and empower students in the Los Angeles college community, particularly those in greatest need.

The founding members were inspired by students who were deprived of essential services. 1ST was founded in May 2020 by a group of students and faculty at UCLA to address humanitarian crises amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic. Housing, food insecurity, mental health concerns, and unequal access to higher education due to the digital divide are some of the issues that affect students.

1ST provides information and resources for students in need so that they can thrive and succeed in their higher education. We seek to build resilience, address inequities among students and young people in our communities, and aspire to create a brighter future.
